4th Salnikov Cup 2010 - Day-1 Results...

(St.Petersburg, RUS) - The 4th edition of the int'l swim tournament "Salnikov Cup 2010" started today in the City of St.Petersburg, Russia. 350 athletes from 15 countries take part in this event. On the Day-1 few great times were swum: Lobintsev, RUS in 100 free (47.15); Popova, RUS in W 200 free (1:55.99); Pedersen, DEN in W 100 breast (1:06.84); Tihonov, RUS in 400 IM (4:08.89); Dekker, NED in W 100 fly (57.55); Bal, USA in 100 back (51.67)... More 7 new CRs were set in Dubai - Day-4...

(Dubai, UAE) - Day-4, within the evening SFs and finals brought new CRs in almost all disciplines. 5 finals and 6 semis were held. In the W 100 breast finals, Rebecca Soni, USA caught a gold medal (1:03.98 - CR) in front of Jones, AUS (1:04.26) and Ji, CHN (1:04.79). In the M 50 back finals, Stanislav Donets, RUS again set a new CR (22.93). In other finals, in the M 50 fly finals, Albert Subirats, VEN earned gold medal with the time of 22.40 - CR. In the W 200 Ind.medley, Mireia Belmonte ESP set the new CR in 2:05.73 and earned gold medal in front of Ye, CHN (2:05.94) and Kukors, USA (2:06.09). (Dubai, UAE) - Day-3 within the semi finals and finals - more new Records of the Championships could be seen. 3 Sfs and 10 finals were held this afternoon. In the M 200 IM finals, Ryan Lochte, USA, earned his 3rd gold medal in 1:50.08 new WR, followed by Rogan AUT (1:52.90) and Clary, USA (1:53.90). New CRs were set by Kromowidjojo, NED in 100 free (51.45); Deibler, GER in 50 fly (22.57); Tomita, JPN in 200 breast (2:03.12); Alshammar SWE in 50 fly (24.87); Soni, USA in 100 breast (1:04.17); Hoff, USA in 400 free (3:57.07); Cielo BRA in 50 free (20.81) and CHN in W 4x100 med.relay (3:48.24).

Earning his second Gold medal, Ryan Lochte USA, in the M 400 Ind.medley Final set new WR (3:55.50)... In the last evening event, in the men's 4x200 free relay, RUS team (Lobintsev, Izvotov, Lagunov &  Sukhorukov) set new WR (6:49.04), in front of USA (6:49.58) and FRA (6:56.05). (Dubai, UAE) - After the delighted opening ceremony, the competition continued with the evening semi finals and finals... 5 final races and 6 SFs have been held. This evening one WR and 6 CRs were set. In the M 200 free Ryan Lochte, USA set again CR with the time of 1:41.08. In the W 200 fly Mireia Belmonte, ESP earned gold medal in 2:03.59 CR also in the W 400 IM (4:24.21). In the women's 4x200 free China (Chen, Tang, Liu & Zhu) took gold medal and set WR in 7:35.94, almost 3 sec. faster than the Netherland’s record of 7:38.90. Read more...

Dubai 2010 - Day-1 - Three CRs in Qualifications...

(Dubai, UAE) - The 10th Fina World Champs Dubai 2010 started this morning at the Rashid Swim Complex. Just at the beginning, within the morning heats, the new three champs records were set by Ryan Lochte, USA in the M 200 free (1:42.38), in the M 100 breast by Fabio Scozzoli, ITA with the time of 57.60 and by the Russia's squad in the M 4x100 free relay (3:07.78)...  Serbian competitors didn't succeed to catch the SFs. In the men's 100 breast Caba Siladji was DISQ, Ivan Lendjer in the men's 100 fly placed 17th (51.54), while Velimir Stjepanovic ranked 39th (53.09) of 88 athletes. Read more in our Web Blog

19th Int'l AG meet Miklavz 2010 - concluded...( D-2 Results)

(Ljubljana, SLO) - More then 500 competitors from BiH, AUT, CRO, HUN, SVK, SRB, ITA took part in the 2-day events for the 19th international AG meeting "Miklavz 2010" that concluded Sunday in Ljubljana, SLO. Austria's Markus Rogan beats Rian Lochte in 200 yd. IM  with the time of 1:44.58... Hungarian Katlin Hosszu earned the best position in the women's 200 yd. IM (1:56.05)... Calendars of the Fina OWS events in 2011...

(Lausanne, SUI) - FINA has rescheduled its 10K Marathon Swim World Cup in 2011, which will have its first race in April (in Santos, BRA), in order to provide the necessary time for the FINA Task Force in charge of investigating the circumstances of the tragic loss of open water swimmer Fran Crippen (USA), on Oct. in UAE. The 2011 OWS season will start on January 23, with the initial race of the Grand Prix in Rosario (ARG, 15 km). This circuit will have 11 stops in three continents and includes only races above 10km (in which each swimmer has an escort boat). Click up the title to read the Calendars of both OWS events.

(Lausanne,SUI)-With immense sadness, FINA mourns the loss of OWS swimmer Fran Crippen (USA), during the last leg of the FINA 10km Marathon, held in Fujairah (UAE) today. Crippen, 26 years old, at Rome '09,  had been bronze medallist in the 10 km, while in 2010, at the FINA OWS Championships in Roberval (CAN), he was also third, this time in the 5km. Crippen graduated in 2006 from the University of Virginia, USA where he was twice named the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimmer of the Year...

(Tokyo, JPN) - T. Pereira (BRA) and T. Alshammar (SWE) reinforced their lead of the overall ranking of the FINA World Cup 2010, after a successful fourth leg of the competition in Tokyo on Oct.20-21. Pereira, who won the men’s 100m and 400m IM was the fourth best performer of the meet, and is at the top of the men’s classification with 88 points. Alshammar, who triumphed in the 50m & 100m fly, established the most valuable performance of the competition in the 100m, and leads the ranking of this World Cup with 80 points. (Singapore, SIN) - Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) and Jessica Hardy (USA) are the overall winners of the 2009 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup, respectively in the men’s and women’s category. Burgh, already winner in 2008, collected 163 points, while Hardy finished the five-meet series with a total of 210 points. Both winners took home a prize money of US$ 100,000. (Jinan,CHI) - At the present XI National Games of China held in Jinan, Liu Zigeset  the new world record in the women's 200-m fly (LCM competition) with the time of 2:01.81. The previous WR was in hands of Jessicah Schipper (2:03.41) set at the World Championships in Rome this year. It has to be mentioned that Liu was the  world-record holder and gold medalist with the time of 2:04.18 in 200 fly at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Lurtz and Okimoto won Hong Kong Fina Cup 2009...

(Hong Kong, HKG) - Thomas Lurz (GER) and Poliana Okimoto (BRA) continue to dominate their respective men’s and women’s fields. Both swimmers swept the three Asian legs, held in Chun An (CHN) on Sept.20, Shantou (CHN) on Sept.26, and Hong Kong (HKG) on Oct.4... With these wins, Lurz has won a total of eight gold medals on the World Cup series '09, while Okimoto has a total of seven gold medals and two silver medals.
