Swim Championships that will never be forgoten...
(Rome, ITA) - The last Day-8 of the swimming events at the Foro Italico
pool for the evening Finals brought 4 new World Records. In the men's 50
back finals Liam Tancock, GBR won with the new WR (24.04). In the
women's 50 breast finals, Russia's Yuliya Efimova set the new WR
(30.09), in front of Rebecca Soni (30.11)... In the men's 400 Ind.Medley
finals,
Ryan Lochte, USA won gold in 4:07.01. In the women's 50
free finals,
Britta Steffen GER set new WR (23.73). In the men's
1,500 free finals, Tunisia's Oussama Mellouli won with the time
of 14:37.28.. In the women's 400 Ind.Medley, Hosszu Katinka, HUN
set the new CR (4:30.31). In the last championships event, in the men's
4x100 Medley Relay, USA team (Peirsol, Shanteau, Phelps and Walters)
set the new WR (3:27.28)... Now the statisticians are on the way to analyze
what had happened in Rome. The number on World and Championships Records
showed where the swimming sport is in this "sports and technological" moment.

(Rome, ITA) - Day-7 in the evening SFs & Finals brought 4 new World
Records. In the women's 50 fly finals, the gold medal was earned by Aussie
star Marieke Guehrer (25.48). In the men's 50 free finals, Brasil's
Cesar
Cielo Fihlo picked up gold with the new CR (21.08 ) in front of F.Bousquet
(21.21) and A.Leveaux (21.25). In the women's 200 back finals,
Kirsty
Coventry, ZIM set the new WR (2:04.81). In the women's 50 breast SFs,
top placed was Sarah Katsoulis, AUS (30.33). In the historical race, in
the Men's 100
fly finals..(on
YouTube), American pride Michael
Phelps set new WR (49.82). SRB star, Olympic Vice-Champion and ex-world
record holder Mike Cavic placed 2nd with the new ER(49.95). In the
women's 50 free SFs placed 1st was Cate Campbell, AUS with the new
CR (24.08). In the men's 50 back SFs Liam Tancock, GBR placed 1st
with the new WR (24.08). In the women's 800 free finals Lotte Friis,
DEN set new CR (8:15.92). In the last race, in the women's 4x100
Medley, China took gold (WR 3:52.13).
(Rome, ITA) - Day-7 of the 13th FINA world swimming champs in the morning
heats brought more new great times and 4 Championships records. It started
with the women's 50 free where the Australian Cate Campbell set
new CR (24.24)... In this same event Serbian record holder and two times
Olympian Miroslava Najdanovski (1988)ranked 17th overall,
missing unfortunately to find herself in the evening semi finals just because
of 2/100 of second... In the women's 50 breaststroke, Russia's Yuliya
Efimova set new CR (30.24) in front of Kasey Carlson, USA and Sarah
Katsoulis, AUS... In the men's 50 backstroke, top placed was Guilherme
Guido, BRA with the new CR (24.29) in front of Aschwin Wildeboer, ESP,
Camille Lacourt, FRA and Liam Tancock, GBR.... In the women's 4x100 Medley
Relay, the team of China placed first with the time of 3:56.14.... See

World Champion...
(Rome, ITA) - Day-6 in the evening SFs & Finals brought 5 new World
Records... In the first event, in the women's 100 free finals, Britta
Steffen, GER won gold with the new WR (52.07). In the men's 200 back
finals, Aaron Peirsol, USA took gold medal with the new WR (1:51.92)..
In the women's 50 fly SFs, Sweden's record holder Therese Alshammar,
placed first with the new WR (25.07)... In the men's 50 free SFs, top position
was earned by Frederick Bousquet, FRA with a new CR (21.21). In the women's
200 breast a miracle came from Serbia. SRB record holder Nadja Higl
succeeded to catch the first place and the gold medal (2:21.62 NR)... Watch

Just
few minutes after that race, Milorad Mike Cavic in the men's 100
fly SFs set the new World Record (50.01) and placed 1st for the tomorrow's
finals. Second SRB participant was Ivan Lendjer, who ranked 11th
(51.32)... In the women's 200 back SFs, top placed was Kirsty Coventry,
ZIM (2:05.86 CR). In the men's 200 breast finals, Daniel Gyurta, HUN picked
up gold (2:07.64). In the men's 4x200 free relay USA took gold -
WR (6:58.55).
(Rome, ITA) - Day-6 of the 13th FINA world swimming champs in the morning
heats brought another great achievements of the Serbian squad members...
In the men's 100 fly preliminaries, Milorad Mike Cavic placed first
of 156 participants with a time of 50.56. The 2nd and 3rd positions divided
Americans McGill and Phelps (50.90)... Ivan Lendjer ranked 7-8th
with a time of 51.22 (divided it with the Germany's Starke). In the other
events, within the men's 50 freestyle heats, Cielo, BRA set new CR (21.37)
in front of S.Nystrand, SWE (21.56) and F.Bousquet, FRA (21.63)... In the
women's 50 fly, top placed was Therese Alshammar, SWE with a new CR (25.44).
In the women's 200 back, Kirsty Coventry, ZIM also set the new CR (2:06.72).
In the men's 4x200 free relay the team of USA placed first with the time

(Rome, ITA) - Day-5 in the evening SFs & Finals brought 7 new World
Records... In the women's 100 free SFs Australia's Lisbeth Trickett placed
1st (52.84) in front of Germany's Britta Steffen (52.87) and Amanda Weir,
USA (53.02). In the men's 200 Ind.Medley finals, Ryan Lochte, USA
set new WR (1:54.10). In the women's 200 breast SFs, top placed was Annamay
Pierce, CAN who set the new WR (2:20.12). Serbian record holder Nadja
Higl ranked 5th with the new National mark (2:22.28)... In the men's
100 free finals, Brasilian Cesar Cielo Filho set new WR (46.91)
in front of Alain Bernard, FRA (47.12) and Frederick Bousquet, FRA (47.25).
In the women's 200 fly finals, Jessicah Schipper, AUS picked up
gold and set WR (2:03.41). In the men's 200 breast SFs, ChristianSprenger,
AUS set new WR (2:07.31). In the women's 50 back final, China's Jing
Zhao set new WR (27.06). In the men's 200 back SFs, Aaron Peirsol,
USA placed 1st with the new CR (1:54.06). In the women's 4x200 freestyle
relay final, CHINA's team caught gold with the new WR (7:42.08)
in front of USA (7:42.56)...
(Rome, ITA) - Day-5 of the 13th FINA world swimming champs started with
the women's 100 freestyle. Serbian record holder Miroslava Najdanovski
swam it in the last (17th) heat from the lane 0 (55.45). Overall, she earned
24th position of 161 athletes who took part in this discipline... Has to
be mention that former world rec holder Marleen Veldhuis, NED canceled
the preliminaries... Top positions for the SFs were earned by Amanda Weir,
USA (53.20), Lisbeth Trickett, AUS (53.49) and Ranomi Kromowidjojo, NED
(53.61)... In the men's 200 back, top 3 placed for the finals were Ryosuke
Irie, JPN (1:55.20), Aaron Peirsol, USA (1:55.88) and Ryan Lochte, USA
(1:55.97)... In the women's 200 breast SRB record holder Nadja Higl
earned SF (2:23.19 NR) placing at the 4th position. Top time and new CR
in this event was set by Annamay Pierse, CAN (2:21.68)... Second
was Rebecca Soni, USA (2:22.09).
(Rome, ITA) - Day-4 in the evening Semis & Finals concluded with 5
new World Records... In the men's 100 free SFs, in spite the new WR wasn't
set, great swimming was shown by France's Alain Bernard who placed 1st
with the time of 47.27 in front of Cesar Cielo Filho, BRA (47.48) and Stefan
Nystrand, SWE (47.53)... In the women's 50 back SFs, Anastasia Zueva,
RUS set new WR (27.38)... In the men's 200 fly finals, Michael Phelps,
USA broke his old and set new WR in 1:51.51... In the women's 200 free
finals, Italian hero Federica Pellegrini took gold and set new WR
(1:52.98)... In the men's 50 breast finals, Cameron Van Der Burgh,
RSA set his second WR (26.67)... In the women's 200 fly SFs, Hungary's
Katinka
Hosszu placed 1st in 2:04.27... In the men's 200 Indidual Medley SFs,
American record holder Ryan Lochte and Hungary's Laszlo Cseh divided 1st
place with the time od 1:55.18... In the last event this evening, the men's
800 free finals, Lin Zhang, CHN set new WR in 7:32.12.

(Rome, ITA) - Day-4 of the 13th FINA world swimming champs started in the
only 4 disciplines (one new WR was set)... In the women's 50 back,
top position for the Semi Finals were earned by Aleksandra Gerasimenya,
BLR (27.65 CR), Daniela Samulski, GER (27.70) and Anastasia Zueva, RUS
(27.70)... Serbian record holder, Marica Strazmester unfortunately
ranked 27th (29.09) of 132 participants in spite she has swam out this
event in 28.81 at the recent Spanish Absolute Championships (in Las Palmas)...
In the men's 100 freestyle, top three positions for the SFs were caught
by David Walters, USA (47.59); Stefan Nystrand, SWE (47.66) and Lyndon
Ferns, RSA (47.79)... In the women's 200 fly, ranked 1st was Mary Descenza,
USA with the new WR (2:04.14)... In the same event Australia's Jessicah
Schipper went better then the old CR (2:05.50).. In the last morning event,
the men's 200 Ind.Medley, Hungary's Laszlo Cseh ranked first with the time

(Rome, ITA) - Day-3 in the evening Semis & Finals concluded with 4
new World Records -"nothing special"... In the men's 200 free finals, Germany's
Paul
Biedermann set WR (1:42.00) in front of Michael Phelps (1:43.22). In
the women's 100 back finals, Gemma Spofforth GBR set new WR (58.12).
In the men's 50 breast SFs, Cameron Van Der Burgh, RSA set new WR
(26.74). Serbian record holder Caba Siladji finished 12th overall
(27.37)... In the women's 1,500 free finals Italy's star Alessia Filippi
won with the time of 15.44.93 CR... In the men's 100 back finals, Junya
Koga, JPN set new CR (52.26). In the women's 200 free SFs Federica Pellegrini,
ITA set new WR (1:53.67). In the men's 200 fly SFs, Takeshi Masuda, JPN
beat Michael Phelps with the time of 1:53.35... In the last event, in the
women's 100 breast finals, Rebecca Soni, USA picked up gold medal (1:04.93)..
(Rome, ITA) - Day-3 of the 13th FINA world swimming champs started this
morning less excited than the previous one... Within the preliminaries
four disciplines were at the program... In the men's 50 breast South Africa's
Van Der Burgh caught the top position for the evening SFs with the time
of 26.92... Serbian record holder and Olympian Caba Siladji ranked
13th of 154 competitors (27.35) and will find himself in the evening SFs...
However, has to be mention, in this event, great names did not qualify
for the SFs such as Magnini (ITA), Borysik (UKR), Polyakov (KAZ), Podoprigora
(AUT), Gibson (GBR)... In the men's 200 fly Pawel Korzienowski (POL) ranked
1st, in front of Michal Phelps with the time of 1:54.33... In the women's
200 free Dana Vollmer (USA) ranked 1st (1:55.98), while in the last event
in the men's 800 free Tunisia's Oussama Mellouli set the best time of 7:41.82...

- World Champion in 50 Fly (CR 22.67)...
(Rome, ITA) - Day-2 of the Rome 2009 in the evening semis and finals brought
more CRs and 5 WRs... Milorad Mike Cavic, SRB in the men's 50 fly
finals beat Matthew Targett (AUS) and Rafael Munoz (ESP) with the time
of 22.67 (new CR) and earned first championships gold medal for Serbia

In other events, Serbian record holder Nadja Higl swam out good
in 100 breast (1:08.13 ) ranked 16th in the SF. In the men's 100
breast final Brenton Rickard (AUS) set new WR (58.58). In the women's
100 fly final, Sarah Sjostrom (SWE) broke her mark setting the new
WR (56.06). In the men's 100 back SF, Junya Koga (JPN) set new CR
(52.39). In the women's 100 breast SF Rebecca Soni
(USA) set WR
(1:04.84).In the women's 100 back SF, Anastasia Zueva (RUS) set

pool within the morning preliminaries showed that the worthy swim
achievements are going to be continued in the second and all other days...
In the women's 200 backstroke Gemma Spofforth (GBR) set the new CR (58.78)...
In the same event Serbia's record holder Marica Strazmester touched
37th of 113 participants (1:02.90)... In the men's 200 freestyle, German
swimmer Paul Biedermann won (1:45.30) in front of Michael Phelps, USA (1:45.60)
and Danila Izotov, RUS (1:45.86)... In this event SRB swimmer Djordje
Markovic ranked 41st of 141 participants (1:49.21). In the women's
100 breaststroke, Rebecca Soni (USA) set the new CR (1:05.66). Serbian
record holder Nadja Higl in the same event ranked 15th (together
with Sweden's Joline Hostman) with the time of 1:07.80... In the men's
100 backstroke, the top postitions for the SFs took Radoslaw Kawecki, POL
(54.66) and Carl Zyn Van, RSA (54.67)...

(Rome, ITA) - Day-1 in the evening SFs & Fs concluded with the 6 new
WRs and 2 CRs...In the women's 100 fly Sweeden's Sarah Sjostrom
(1993) broke De Bruijn's record from Sydney 2000 (56.61) with the time
of 56.44. In the men's 400 free finals, German Paul Biedermann set
new WR (3:40.07) in front of Mellouli, TUN (3:41.11). In the women's 200
Ind. Medley Ariana Kukors, USA set new WR (2:07.03). Federica
Pellegrini (ITA) is the first women ever goes bellow 4 min in 400 free
(3:59.15). Nedtherland women's 4x100 free relay set WR (3:31.72)..

men's 4x100 free relay set the CR in 3:09.21 (Phelps, Lochte, Grevers,
Adrian).
In the men's 50 fly Semis, SRB legend Milorad Cavic ranked 2nd (22.75
NR) just 7/100 of second behind Spain's Rafa Munoz (22.68 CR)... However,
Schoeman (RSA), Lauterstein (AUS), Korotysgkin (RUS) and other strong
opponents did not catch their places for the tomorrow's finals..
(Rome, ITA) - Day-1 of the 13th FINA world swim champs started this morning
with the preliminaries in 8 events.. Four Serbians took part in the heats.
In the men's 400 free Djordje Markovic ranked 34th (3:54.87). In
the men's 50 fly Milorad Cavic touched 3rd (22.93 NR)
behind Roland Schoeman, RSA (22.90) and Rafael Munoz, ESP (22.90), while
Ivan
Ledjer ranked 18th (23.51 LBT). Caba Siladji in the 100 breast
ranked 18th overall (1:00.20)..
Eight new CRs are set in the Day-1 prelims: B.Rickard, AUS in 100 breast
(58.98); F.Pelegrini, ITA in 400 free (4:01.96); A.Kukors, USA in 200 IM
(2:08.53); S.Sjostrom, SWE in 100 fly (56.76), Munoz and Schoeman in 50
fly (22.90); Germany in the women's 4x100 free relay (3:34.74) and Brasil
in the men's 4x100 free (3:11.26)...

time keeper Omega issued the full start lists...
(Rome, ITA)--- Day prior to the start od the 13th
FINA World swimming championships, the official time keeper issued the
full start lists in all events. On the Day-1 four Serbian swimmers
will find themselves in the pool. In the men's 400 freestyle, Djordje
Markovic in the heat 8 is entered with the time of 3:52.35. Caba
Siladji will start in 100 breast at the heat 13, lane 8. In the 50
fly, from the last heat 21, Milorad Mike Cavic will start in the
lane 5, while Ivan Lendjer in lane 8.. In the same heat, beside
the SRB stars, the chances for the SFs would try to find also world record
holder Rafael Munoz, ESP(from the lane 4) and Russia's Evgeny
Korotyshkin in lane 6.. However, unbelievable number of participants
in this event says that the "interest" for the men's 50 fly is absolutely

Maglione - new President of the FINA (2009-2013)...
(Rome, ITA)--- The 22-member FINA Bureau (the executive board of the IF)
decided today at its Congress session, the new President of FINA for the
next 2009-2013 term will be Mr. Julio Cesar Maglione
Julio Maglione is born in 1935 in Montevideo, Urugvay. Odontologist; President
of the National Committee of Physical Education and Sport of Uruguay (1995-2000);
Vice-Minister of Public Health (91-92)... Member of the IOC (International
Olympic Committe since 1996). Regarding his worthy sports career: National
record holder in 100 m & 200 m fly and breaststroke (1949-1954); bronze
medallist in 200 m breaststroke and 100 m fly and silver medallist in 4x100
m medley relay at the Latin American Games in Havana (Cuba); participant
in the Pan-American Games in Mexico (1955).. Within the sports administration:
President of the South American Swimming Confederation (1976-1978); President
of the Amateur Swimming Union of the Americas (1979-1983, 1995-1999); first
President of the Uruguayan Sports Confederation (1985-1990); Vice-President
of the ANOC (2002-); member of the FINA Bureau (1984-1988), then Vice-President
(1988-1992) and Honorary Treasurer of FINA (1992-).

1,470 competitors from 164 countries will participate...
(Rome, ITA)--- Last official info from Fina told that the 13th FINA World
Championships edition will be highlighted by a record of participation.
2,556 athletes from 185 countries will be present at the venues in 5 aquatic
events (by facilities for Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Synchronised
Swimming at the Foro Italico) and Ostia Beach (Open Water Swimming). Only
in the swimming, 1,470 athletes from 164 countries are entered...
In the Italy's capital, FINA will hold its biennial General Congress on
July 24, 2009. At this meeting, the 22-member FINA Bureau (the executive
board of the IF) will be elected for its 2009-2013 term. The Bureau will
then elect the Executive officers from its members. In addition to the
Fina Congress, Technical Congresses (TCs), or discipline-specific meetings,
will be in each present discipline, as well as an Extraordinary Congress
on Masters Rules.
