| ROCHESTER -- Though the championship
heats were out of reach, many local swimmers left their marks at
the 2005 Division boys swimming and diving finals at Oakland University. |
| |
| Portage Northern High School
had a strong showing and placed 21st as a team with 31 points, four positions
higher than its performance in 2004. Igor Rasula
took 10th place in the 200 free with a time of 1 minute, 46.24 seconds
and 15th in the 100 free, stopping the watch at 49.51. The 200 free relay
team of Barrett Marble, Kyle Austin, Alex Dawson and Igor
Rasula clocked a time of 1:30.56, which was good for 10th place
and the same lineup took 13th overall in the 400 free relay at 3:20.83. |

| Sturgis exchange-student Elias Rodriguez
notched a 13th-place performance in the 50 free with a time of 22.19, the
only Trojan to swim on Saturday. |
| |
| Mattawan's Rob Andrews stood out
as the lone area freshman to make it past the prelims at Eastern Michigan
University, moving up one spot to 14th place overall in the 100 butterfly
with a time of 54.40. |
| |
| "I felt really good and it was good
to see other swimmers from around the state and gain some experience,"
said Andrews, who will continue to swim year-round for the Great Lakes
Aquatic Club out of Loy Norrix. |
| |
| "It was a great weekend experience
to have one of the only two local freshman to swim on the second day, I
think he (Andrews), is pretty happy with his performance," Mattawan coach
Melinda Paige said. |
