Da li bi mogao da nam kazez, a posebno perspektivnim plivacima - studentima
iz Srbije i sa Balkana, koji su osnovni preduslovi za dobijanje sanse za
sticanje sportske stipendije kao i akademske finansijske podrske na nekom
od Americkih univerziteta. Postoji znacajan interes za tim. |

| Ivan: Studije u Americi su
me oduvek privlacile, ali jedini nacin za ostvarenje mog sna je bila sportska
stipendija. Zahvaljujuci vrednim rezultatima u plivanju, uspeo sam da realizujem
svoj cilj. Posle prve godine, pored sportske stipendije, uspeo sam da dobijem
i nekoliko akademskih stipendija. Posle svega, zeleo bih da posavetujem
sve one koji nameravaju da se skoluju u Americi, da pored rezultata u plivanju
moraju da budu i uspesni studenti, jer su mogucnosti u SAD ogromne. |

| Moja iskustva govore, da mlad
covek veoma tesko moze da odgovori svim obavezama i u obrazovnom delu i
u sportu. Medjutim ogromno zadovoljstvo se ne moze opisati, kada se uspeh
ostvari. Mislim, da je konkurencija ogromna i samo najvredniji sportisti
mogu da 'dotaknu zvezde'. |

| Ivan: Naravno. Svaki veliki cilj
zahteva ogromna odricanja. Pored dvo-delnih dnevnih treninga u bazenu i
teretani, studije su sve teze i teze iz godine u godinu. Pored svega toga,
uspeo sam da zahvaljujuci visokim ocenama i znanjem matematike, dobijem
priliku da studentima pomazem u savladjivanju gradiva i polaganju ispita
iz tog predmeta. Biti redovan student i clan plivackog tima zahteva veliki
napor i svakako samo najuporniji uspeju da prevazidju sve prepreke. |

| Posto si prekinuo takmicarsko
plivanje u NCAA od ove jeseni, zbog okoncanja studija planiranog za Decembr
2008, naime u sred sezone, da li si uspeo da nadjes vremena za neki trening?
Da li planiras da nastavis sa plivanjem i tokom Masters studija? |

| Ivan: Zbog dolaska u SAD u januaru,
moje pravo nastupa za tim je svedeno na 7 semestara, umesto 8. Posle
zvanicnog prestanka nastupanja na takmicenjima za svoj tim, fokusirao sam
se na zavrsetak studija, i upis na Master program (pod uslovom da dobijem
stipendiju koja bi pokrila moje skolovanje). |

you tell also to the future prospective swimmers-students from Serbia and
the region of the Balkans, what is the main condition in the domain of
getting into chance to reach athletic stipend and the academic financial
aid at one US university? The interests exist. |

| Ivan: The only way for me to accomplish
my dream of getting an education and swimming was by obtaining an athletic
scholarship. I got the chance to get an education in America because of
my swim results; therefore I obtained a scholarship at the University of
Southern Illinois . After my first academic year in addition to my swim
scholarship I worked extremely hard and received several academic stipends.
So, my recommendation to all swimmers who are interested in coming to US
is that besides their swim results it is more than a big advantage if they
keep up with the grades as well, because there is so much opportunity in
America if you succeed in sports and education it can pay your way. |

| My personal experiences told
that it is very hard for young person to cover all activities in the academic
and the intercollegiate sport duties. However, the great pleasure cannot
be explained, after any achievement is earned. I mean, the concurrence
is extremely large and very few of the worthiest athlete can touch the
stars. |

| Ivan: That’s true. In order to achieve
any big goal, dedication is the only way to get there. Besides practicing
twice a day there is school and studying which gets harder as the years
progress. In addition to that I found time to work as a math tutor and
employee of the SIU recreation center. That being said, you can see that
being a great student athlete is very hard due to practice and classes.
It is a dream to swim and get an education at the same time but time management
is extremely important along with dedicating any free time to your studies,
therefore this lifestyle is not for everyone. |

| As you broke your competitive
NCAA swimming starting autumn, because of the date of the edu graduation
(Dec, 2008) in the middle of the season, did you find out some time for
the training? Should you plan to go ahead in swimming, at the time of your
post graduation ? |

| Ivan: As I came in January 2005,
my eligibility status for the swim team expired after 4th Conference meet,
which was in March this year. Since my eligibility expired, my goal was
to get into Graduate School to further my education and obtain an Assistantship
position which would pay my education as well as living expenses. While
focusing on preparing myself for the Masters program, I managed to stay
in good shape. |
